SKYE: A special warm welcome goes out to you Sienna for joining us on EdenFantasys.com. Sienna Sinclaire is a very exotic name. Reflect on how this enticing name came about.
SIENNA SINCLAIRE: Thank you very much, first thing about my name. I’ll do my best to explain. I had a book of baby names… I found Sienna and then talked to my website guy. He came up with Sinclaire, because of sin.
SKYE: Excellent. How’s that working out for you?
SS: Well no one has Sinclaire because I’ve trademarked it. No one else can use it for what I’m doing.
SKYE: Perhaps one of the accolades you’re best known for is your breath taking burlesque. For those of us unfamiliar to its term, what is burlesque, and how does it fit into adult entertainment today?
SS: Burlesque began in the 1800’s as a comedy. I think it means redeeming comedy act. So before they would have guys do a comedy skit, a girl would come on and she would also do something cheeky. They’d perform at the same time. She might remove a glove, not like what it is today, or she might remove something behind the curtain and then show her dress when she’s still behind there. So it’s evolved from that. It was kind of cheeky innocence to something a little more risqué moving into the 1930s and 1940s, where they removed a little bit more to tease. Then men stopped going to the clubs because they wouldn’t watch. Then as time went on, people just tried to push the limits, then it became the strip clubs that we know today. Then it kind of died because it became too raunchy and people didn’t really like that for that era. Burlesque went to the wayside.
In the 1970s, I think it went away. I mean people were still doing it, it just wasn’t popular at all anymore. In the 1990s we had Dita Von Teese in L.A. and its just evolved to what it is today. So now it helps the women become confident in all shapes and sizes. They don’t care. Like porn, they don’t care what shape or size you are. It’s mostly girls that have real boobs. Hardly ever see a girl that has fake boobs in a Burlesque show; maybe a few, but its rare. It’s just beautiful. More women get into it because they don’t feel confident, like taking up something new. They start it, and it brings this something out about them that they haven’t felt before. It makes women feel sexy again.
SKYE: In your opinion, what’s the difference between a strip tease and burlesque? Is there a fine line, or is there a prominent difference?
SS: A strip tease can be whatever you want. It can be just removing your clothes or even a dress, that can be a strip tease. You don’t have to be naked. Burlesque is the same way, it incorporates stripping but you don’t go fully nude. Its meant to be cheeky, to evoke imagination. If you want to see naked women, you go to a strip club. If you want fun adult entertainment that’s sexy, not really raunchy, you go to a burlesque. Not that being nude is raunchy, but in burlesque you can’t just go to panties and pasties. Some girls only go bra and full back panties, so it varies.
SKYE: How did you get involved with the Burlesque scene?
SS: It came about…..well I started off in porn, and then I find I get bored of stuff and just kind of check them out. I found myself looking into pin-up sites. Pin-up erotica always reminded me of Burlesque, and a lot of people in this industry are in the pin-up industry and vice versa. So I started going to a lot of events and training with this one lady that is a genuine burlesque performer. I just started putting my act together, and that’s how it all happened.
It was a year and a half before I went on stage. I was studying it, seeing what I wanted to do. It was fun.
SKYE: I was on your website earlier today. Peeking and poking around, seeing the very glamorous 1950s type look with your hair pulled back, the garter belts, the nylons, the very soft, sensual side is what I saw. I have to tell you I admire that you have your natural breasts.
SS: Well, thank you.
SKYE: I find it completely sexy. That’s at Siennasinclaire.com. Do you feel the current age of adult entertainment has lost its artistic edge? I know you portray a very artistic persona. Do you feel there is not enough of that out there?
SS: The reason I did it is because when you get into porn you get into other people’s, which this is the majority where you’re just a hot girl and you put on lingerie and bikinis. Anybody can pose naked, do sexy acts. You need to find a niche. So I was looking for what I wanted to do, and I always wanted to incorporate things from the fifties. It’s how I decorate my house. Art décor-very glamorous, the clothes I wear; I fifties clothes out, dresses. Just the way I dress is even very glamorous, even at night time. So it’s just who I am. It’s want I wanted to go with. The forties and fifties doing the pin-ups from the different eras, but I do think it’s lost. Vivid and Playboy and Digital Playground, they have a lot of money (laughs), so they’re very artsy. Some of their stuff is anyway.
You have parodies, which I think is really funny and interesting. You have The Pirates. I thought that was really interesting and artistic.
There’s another guy, Andrew Blake, that does really artistic porn. But there’s very few people, very few people. People in the porn industry are straight get naked, throw out the lingerie. Let’s do this; we want the money shot. That’s not what I’m about.
SKYE: So you’d say your favorite element of the industry today would be theme based?
SS: Theme related. My website is mostly pin-up, retro-style. I’ve done the 70s. I’ve done the ‘80s, 50s, 40s, 30s, 20s, 1900s. But I also do stuff like Cleopatra, stuff like that. Then my other side is fetish. It’s also retro. I also do theme stuff with latex and nylons.
SKYE: Upon the glamour side of your site, the bio section sites: “A wide spectrum of achievements from sex to relationships couch to belly dancing to modeling to directing films and as a writer. As a sex couch what is your most commonly asked question?
SS: I don’t know if its necessarily one question. It’s so random with everybody. There’s no one answer that can be given for everyone. It surprises me how so many people have too many things in their lives; something personal and important to them. If I had to guess it’d probably be with people and communication. They may not come out and say that, but it’s really all about communicating with your partner.
It’s usually something-how do I go down on her? How do I kiss her? How do I have a better blow job? Things like that. That is the key. Ask her what she likes. Ask him what he likes. Communication is the key. Seriously there is no one given thing they ask the most.
SKYE: As a sex coach, what does that mean?
SS: A therapist has their PhD, lots of school. They have laws, and depending upon the state they work in can get sued like a doctor. Sex coaches cannot. Sex therapists you cannot touch your patients. Sex coaches, we can if it helps them with what they need. So if a woman felt, say if she had an ugly vagina and you felt it was in her best interest to show her your own vagina, you can see the differences that women have. A sex therapist wouldn’t do that. It’s intimate, is what it is.
Sex therapists also deal with your past. Sex coach’s deals with the now and gets you to focus on the present and future. We don’t deal with the past at all. You may bring it up, yet we focus on where you are now and where you want to go. I help you get there.
The same with a guy, maybe he needs to…you know there are sex surrogates here in California. They’re legal. That’s where you’d work with a sex coach or a sex therapist. If they can legally have sex to show you things with their client, but it has to be a referral of a sex coach or therapist.
SKYE: Excellent.
SS: But like I said, the coach isn’t having sex with the person. You can do body work, like if someone comes in. There might be a guy that comes in, and he’s never been touched. Touch is a very important and powerful thing. You could touch him, do a massage, stuff like that but not having….you know sexual….
SKYE: …..say it….
SS: …..like sex surrogates can show the guy if he comes in, and he’s feeling a little self conscious about his penis maybe, small penis, he can’t get it up-the sex surrogate can help him with that and make him feel more confident, and you know…sexually where you can’t do that. We don’t have the license.
SKYE: I understand. There’s a very definitive line there. How did you get into that?
SS: Sex coaching? People have always come up to me growing up and wanted my advice on stuff. I got into the adult industry, and people wanted my advice more. I love helping people, then I was thinking, who can I actually make money off of this.
It’s not only a business. I wanted to educate myself more; to see if this is what I wanted to do. Then I went to sex coaching school here in LA. We meet every month and go over certain topics, on-line classes with them. I’ve done some other schooling with sex coaching and relationships-just different stuff. You’re always learning. You never stop learning. It’s not just class certification and you stop. There are always seminars, reading books, just being around different things. So when I started doing that I realized how much I was learning. How I really love doing this-porn or anything I do. I love knowing when say a woman comes to see me, whether its low self confidence, or she leaves after one session or a years worth of sessions, she feels more confident and reassured about herself. That, to me, gives me great pleasure. A guy that has low self confidence, whatever it is, it just gives me pleasure knowing I’ve helped somebody-sexually too.
SKYE: That’s a great job. Good for you that you’re able to help people like that. Go the extra mile, that’s awesome.
SS: Yeah sexuality is very important. A lot of people ignore it and focus on their work and all this other stuff. Your sexuality gives you confidence. You should feel better about yourself. -So many aspects to it that people don’t realize.
SKYE: For sure. Your website www.siennasinclaire.com is a Mecca of fantasies. What is your one unfulfilled fantasy?
SS: Oh! I’ve done so much. I’ve always had a fantasy then just go and do it. I can’t really say I have any unfulfilled fantasies now. Maybe a new one will come up in the future that will make me go-Oh! I want to go and do that. Right now? Nope.
SKYE: Good for you, that’s great.
SS: You can’t be in the sex industry and not try everything.
SKYE: Really?
SS: Well I mean that, to me, if you’re a sex therapist, and I’m not saying anything against when I was in my sex coaching class, there are a lot of gynecologists and therapists; People who are very intelligent, have their PhD’s. Then there’s me. I have college and things like that. I’ve gone and done what they’ve done. But I know more than what they know just because of what I’ve done.
Like when we talked about fetishes, and we talked about the porn industry, we talked about….I just feel like I have more hands on. They know more of the technical stuff.
SKYE: Is there anything you’ve tried-you may do again-but not on the top of your list?
SS: If I’m not one hundred percent happy about something, it doesn’t give me pleasure, then I’m not going to do it again.
No point in wasting time, I’m not going to do it.
