Review Friday: Featuring Tantus Alumina
I’m not even sure where to start with the Tantus Alumina Flow.
Awhile back, Metis Black, Queen of Tantus, asked for opinions on the Eden Fantasys/Eden Link forum why we thought they weren’t selling. Reasoning ranged from price and the economy to the fact that it was purple. A lot of folks said they just weren’t sure about aluminum, that it was a rarely used material for sex toys and, hence, not hyped or well known or often talked about.
I think it was at that point I decided to get one to review. I was one of the ones who was anti-purple. It was, quite literally, the main reason I didn’t already have one. That and they looked small to me and I like thicker, bigger toys for the most part.
So let’s begin with the basics, shall we? The Flow is made from anodized aeronautical aluminum so it’s corrosion and wear resistant. It’s good for temperature play. It’s body safe and sterilizable by either boiling or bleaching. It can be shared. Unlike steel, it’s not super heavy. Unlike glass, it’s not fragile. It’s pretty much the best of all worlds, the perfect material for those who like firm, solid toys.
It’s 9.25 inches long, from tip to tip, but the business end is only 4 inches in length – enough to hit the g-spot with plenty of handle for thrusting, yet not so long you’ll beat the crap out of your cervix if you thrust too hard. Diameter on the Flow ranges from 7/8 of an inch to an inch and a half, though it seems larger than that at its widest point. It’s definitely not small, as I’d thought this line was. In fact, I was gobsmacked when I opened the box and saw how big it actually is. (In a very good way) It is definitely not for those who like a small, slim toy.
The surface is flawless and has a sheen to it that is absolutely amazing. I loathe purple – LOATHE – unless it’s a plum, almost black shade and I don’t even mind the color of this toy. It’s a magenta-ish purple that, translated in cool, sleek metal with a deep sheen to it, is quite gorgeous. There is no texture at all to this dildo; it’s completely smooth other than the o-ring that connects the top to the handle. Which is another cool thing. The Alumina line all have the o-ring and top/bottom that unscrew so you can, if you own more than one, mix and match pieces for your ideal dildo.
The Alumina Flow comes packageed in a nice, black, heavy duty cardboard box with a foam insert and cover to keep it in place. Excellent for storage so you don’t scratch it up! Tucked inside the box is a small Tantus pamphlet that tells you a bit about the company, the aluminum and the other products in this line.
I’m not a packaging freak by any means. I’m happy to get stuff in a small bag or box with little waste. But I totally appreciate, when I get more expensive or luxury type toys, having a package that also acts as storage. I like to keep my nice stuff protected and this box does it very well.
It’s unobtrusive and, though it does have some text (the name of the toy, line and company) as well as a silver sketch of the dildo on the front, it’s still very discreet. The dildo is non phallic so the sketch just looks abstract; no one seeing it laying out would think twice about it. They’d likely assume it was jewelry of some sort.
Let’s move on to the good stuff now, eh? The basics are necessary but we all really want to know how it works, right?
It’s a dream.
I’m not going to lie; this dildo is thick. Because it’s aluminum, it’s firm, with no give, no squeeze. It feels thicker than 1.5 inches in diameter. It’s filling and wonderful if you like a larger toy but it’s going to seem too big to those who like slimmer insertables.
It’s also completely smooth, only the o-ring providing a bump in the sleek shaft if you insert it far enough to feel it. If you need texture, this one isn’t for you. But, honestly? It’s not something I miss when I use this. It is amazing in it’s cool, thick sleekness.
And it does feel cool when you first begin to use it. Even at room temperature, it feels almost cold. It rapidly warms up though, almost heating as you thrust with it, so that eventually, it’s hot and heavy in a way I’ve never felt with any other material, even steel. Keep a bowl of ice water near by and you can cool it down and heat it up, over and over. Or run it under warm water before use if you don’t like cold. Aluminum is exceptionally versatile that way.
The handle is easy to hold and doesn’t get too slick, even when your hands are full of lube. Mostly, I’d say, due to it’s length. You have plenty to hold on to. And you’ll need to. This thing is a-freaking-mazing at g-spotting, even though it’s not curved, because of it’s firm, thick shaft and rapid thrusting seems to happen spontaneously.
What really sucks is that I can’t describe/review this thing properly. I keep writing but it’s awesomeness keeps not coming out in my words. I cannot make you understand how freaking incredible it is. That may be why they’re not a huge seller, why we don’t see much about the Alumina pieces.
All I can say is…
I like it as much as I like the Njoy Pure Wand. It’s different. It’s not curved. But it is just as good and I’ve actually used it MORE than I’ve used my pure wand. It’s lighter – not by a lot, it’s still a substantial toy with more weight than silicone or even glass sex toys- and easier to pull out and works fantastically with clitoral stimulation.
The Flow is made of 100% win and I’ve heard nothing but good about each and every piece in the Alumina line. You damned near can’t go wrong….
This toy is made to last a lifetime. You can use any lube you like, boil it, dishwash it, bleach it, wash with soap and water, take it in the tub, the shower, the hot tub, the pool, lake minitonka.
The only thing I wouldn’t do is use it anally as it has no flared base and I’m a freak that way.

I have an Alumina Motion, and I assure you, these babies are worth every penny. They are GORGEOUS, and the sensations aluminum provides are surreal (and I mean that in a good way!). I hope this line continues, because the Alumina dildos are first class!
