Mega Booty Beads vs. Crystal Chic Wand

Mega Booty Beads vs. Crystal Chic Wand

Since both of these toys are similar is so many ways, I thought I’d compare the Mega Booty Beads by BMS Enterprises and the Crystal Chic Wand by California Exotics for those who may be interested in both. Designed to be anal toys, their lengths and the cool bend-and-pose feature of these toys also makes them useful as clitoral stimulators or G-spot explorers too, which is something to keep in mind as you read this.

Let me start off by saying that the Mega Booty Beads we received were a real bitch to get working. Both of these toys have two miniature metal electrical contacts on the rims of their battery compartments, and we had to pick at the ones on the Booty Beads for awhile to raise them up first, then crank the battery cap on uber tight to get the toy to work. Still, I’m going to give the toy the benefit of the doubt, assuming that was just a fluke, and start it off with a clean slate for this comparison.

Materials and Texture:
Both toys are made out of hard plastic, with the Crystal Chic Wand’s being covered in “VelvetCote” and the Mega Booty Beads in “RubberCote.” VelvetCote, RubberCote, both are just fancy trade names for a matte polyurethane finish. And though the Booty Beads boast that they have gone through a “3 step buffing process,” neither toy feels any different to the touch; both are amazingly soft and smooth, so you won’t need to use a lot of lube with these babies.

Size Can Matter:
The Crystal Chic Wand is about 1/4″ shorter overall than the Mega Booty Beads, and this comes only from the fact that the Booty Beads’ insertion tip is longer by that much. This alone doesn’t make any notable difference whatsoever during use, but the width of those tips do. The Chic Wand’s tip is barely over 1/2″ wide vs. the Booty Beads’ 3/4″ width, which may not sound like much, but it’s noticeable when you’re inserting them anally. Think of it as the difference between putting a man’s pinkie finger versus his thumb up your ass, and you’ll get the idea. The Chic Wand’s thinner tip is much easier to insert if you’re an anal virgin, and makes it easier to pinpoint areas to pleasure during clit play. Of course, if you’re *not* an anal virgin, Mega Booty Beads’ wider tip will give you a little of that coveted initial stretch on insertion, and it works better for G-spot stimulation too.

The Bends:
Both of these toys have the “unique” feature of having their beads threaded onto a flexible metal rod so you can bend and pose them into whatever position you’d like. Personally, I think the Crystal Chic Wand is better in this department if you’re using it for clitoral stimulation, because it’s more rigid and tends to hold its shape better. Not that the Mega Booty Beads flop around or anything, but if you’re exerting a lot of pressure during clit play the Booty Beads sometimes start to straighten out on their own. However, that little extra bit of flexibility that the Booty Beads has can be useful when you’re engaged in anal play, because you don’t have to remove the toy and touch it with your hands if you want to change the angle of it.

Let’s Get it On:
There is no difference in either the operation or the vibration levels for either one of these toys, but there is a slight difference in the noise they produce. Both require an AA-sized battery, have a push button control on the bottom of the handle, and offer three speeds of constant buzzy-type vibrations. On low speed, they’re both gentle and whisper-quiet. But on medium speed the Mega Booty Beads pull ahead in the noise department and make a mild rattling sound in the handle unless you’ve got the beads inserted somewhere, which quiets it to a hum, whereas the Crystal Chic Wand just sounds like an angry bee under the same circumstances. On high speed both toys deliver numbing vibrations, and the noise level is the same for both. The only difference is whether you prefer the weedwacker-across-the-street sound of the Crystal Chic Wand or the electric toothbrush rattle of the Mega Booty Beads. Again though, both toys quiet down to a mid-range hum once
inserted.

The one big difference between these two toys is that which is most obvious; the bead configurations. After the initial insertion, the graduated bead design of the Crystal Chic Wand means that without the vibrations on there’s little sensation until you get about halfway up the toy, where the bead sizes finally begin to equal the tip’s. Then you get to enjoy a gradual mild stretching up to the final bead, which is 3/4″ wide. It would make an excellent anal trainer, particularly since this configuration also makes the toy easier to withdraw, but not much of a thrill for ass-play veterans.
The Mega Booty Beads, on the other hand, has alternating beads of 3/8″ and 5/8″ widths that make this a great anal toy whether the vibrations are on or not. The beads cause your anus to do an dance of stretch-and-relax all the way in and creates a fairly intense tugging sensation on the way out.

When It’s Time to Clean Up:
Both toys use what I call the “stretch and twist” method to prep them for cleaning. Basically, you grab either end of the toy and tug to separate the beads, then twist in opposite directions to lock them open that way. The Mega Booty Beads definitely win in this department though, because once locked there is more open space between the beads so it’s easier to clean than the Crystal Chic Wand.
My one bitch about these toys applies equally to both— you can’t sterilize them. That means you’ll either have to buy a second one if you want to switch from anal play to G-spot jousting, or put a condom on it. I hate condoms on sex toys.

So which toy is better? Personally, I’ve reserved the Crystal Chic Wand for clitoral play and the Mega Booty Beads as one of my favorite anal toys, and I’m happy to have them both in my toy box!
