I’ve been wanting to write something for this series but lack of sleep lately has made it hard to find passion for much, in favor or against.
But thankfully Fox News has come to the rescue.
I always have disliked them, but recently they’ve risen to new heights and with these achievements in journalistic mediocrity, I can declare, I hate them!
Why, you ask? Why do I hate a seemingly innocuous TV new source whose only crime appears to be competing with CNN and MSNBC for the 24 hour news audience?
It’s a long list, I suggest you get a coffee refill.
I hate them for their self-righteousness and belief that they are superior to others.
I hate them for calling themselves a news channel when 75% of their “news” comes from opinion shows. Like Hannity, Beck, O’Reilly and the morning crowd whose names all escape me. I can see that insipid blonde in my head but I refuse to recall what her name is. All I know is that some of the most insane shit I’ve ever heard leaks out of her mouth on a regular basis.
I hate that they don’t even try to be objective while they blather on and fucking on about how damn objective they are.
I hate that they sponsor rallies and protest in order to create their own narrative. A news organization’s purpose is to report what is going on in the world, not generate what is going on in the world.
And while we are on that subject, I hate that Fox News uses fake footage to manipulate the story they have created to make it appear to be something it was not. I refer directly to the recent story done on the Daily Show about the footage from Glenn Beck’s rally in Sept to make it appear that thousands more people had attended Shawn Hannity’s rally this past week.
Really stop and think about that for a moment. They used fake footage. To report a news story. They responded to these claims, saying they made a mistake, that it was an accident.
Now think about that for a moment. How you do you accidentally pull up old video from a previous news story, that would be labeled as such in your video archives and accidentally repackage it for a new story?
Accidental, my ass.
There is nothing accidental about it. It is a pure, unadulterated look behind the curtain at an organization who is more than willing to manipulate the facts to suit their own agenda.
If you don’t buy it, how about just looking at the fact that when people who work for other news organizations (i.e. the NY Times or CBS News, in recent memory) get caught making shit up, they GET FIRED.
I will pledge right now, if Shawn Hannity is fired for this blatant distortion of the truth, I will not only subject myself to at least an hour of Fox News a day, I will come back here and write an “I Love Fox News” post.
Even their own tag line, Fair and Balanced, is a manipulation. Because direct inquiries to the network have resulted in explanations that most of their prime time, most-watched programming is actually opinion. Conservative opinion. Balance implies there would be a counter opinion from the Liberal side of the political spectrum.
Oh there was that one guy, back in the day. He used to sit next to Hannity. What was his name?
Doesn’t matter really. They chucked him out the window with all the rest of their weak attempts at journalistic integrity and honesty.

that was awesome. thank you.

Truly excellent write-up! I recommend that everyone who agrees go to http://www.turnofffox.com/. It’s a campaign to have Fox “News” turned off in public spaces.

Really? Wow. That actually sounds like something Fox News would do to other shows. I hate the channel as well, but that rings of censorship. It’s fine if you ask a business like a pub or whatnot if you can change the channel, but you also don’t have to listen and/or watch.

Toygirl
Nah, censorship would be trying to get them taken off the air. This is just the free market making its desires known.

Toygirl is right. It’s not technically censorship unless the decision to deny access is made by the government or media organization.
It could be viewed as an organized attempt to suppress free speech which I am not a fan of, but it’s really more of a large a group of people expressing their collective opinion to the places they do business about broadcasting programming which is deeply offensive to them.
Eliot
Fair enough. But something about it still rubs me the wrong way. Oh, well.

Have you seen the documentary Outfoxed? It’s terrifying and makes so much sense.
Laurel
No, but I shall have to hunt it down.
