… and Finding the Safe, Right Affordable Toy

By P’Gell

What do we mean by “Beginner Toys” and what defines what kind of “Beginner.” Also, what toys are really best for those new to either toys or sex and toys in general?

The term “beginner” may mean different things to different people. Some erroneously think that toys with very inconsistent or weaker vibrations, poor or non-body safe materials or short lives are “beginners’ toys.” Nothing could be farther from the truth.

Many people are very hesitant to try Sex Toys, and one bad experience, either a toy which doesn’t help bring them to climax, one which breaks after only a few uses, or one which is too loud and conspicuous or even a toy which hurts her may cause them to think “Vibrators don’t work for me.” Not all people new to the using toys realize that not all sex toys are equal, and one poor toy may shut the door to new experimentation and the world of interesting play, by causing a less than satisfying experience. Therefore, good quality toys, made of safe materials at an affordable price, are most likely best for many “Beginners.”

Also, some people may not be new to sexual relations or masturbation, but have never gotten around to trying sex toys, may want to bring some variety to a relationship or may be starting off new with a new relationship or a new identification of the sexuality or are newly single and suddenly may be freed from a partner who may have not been interested or even threatened by sex toys. Many of these men and women are not new to sex, oral, PIV, anal or orgasm or self stimulation and may want or need stronger or larger toys than virgins or those recently setting out on their sex lives.

Many men, also, may be interested in either playing with toys with their partner or trying Prostate stimulation or even pegging as either an adjunct to PIV sex, or as an introduction to anal sex with a partner who is interested. Many men also enjoy a masturbator tube as an alternative to regular hand masturbation.

Some women or men may be experienced in sex and have been having climaxes for years, but recently be experiencing difficulty with orgasm. This may be due to Peri-menopause, medication use (anything from pain medication to antidepressants to high blood pressure medicine to the Birth Control Pill) or health problems such as thyroid issues, depression, hormone imbalances or diabetes or high blood pressure. These women may need very strong toys that will help them come to orgasm without stress or fear. These women want their sex lives back and the desire or need strong and large toys may bring them to a sex toy dealer to help them regain their ability to enjoy sex and climax consistently.

Those who identify as GLBT also are sometimes reluctant to try toys or introduce them to their partners. While I will not get into packing toys in this article, as it will take some time and space, we will discuss toys appropriate for both pre and post op Transgendered people, as well as a litany of anal toys, appropriate for anyone of any identification. A short primer on Prostate toys and some information on affordable harnesses will also be covered. In short, most of these toys can be used by most people.

G Spot toys will, likewise be covered in a separate article in the name of brevity, and also many “Beginners” may want to master basic ways to come to orgasm before investigating all myriad variations on this subject.

Discreet

These toys are high quality, but discreet, quiet, as many younger women either live at home with parents or room mates or want something that won’t give away what they are playing with. Some of these toys have lesser strengths than other toys, but we shouldn’t always assume that “newbies” always only want gentle toys. Even some girls new to sex may be a member of the Clit of Steel Brigade.

[tabcontainer] [tabtext]Gino[/tabtext] [tabtext]Bullet[/tabtext] [tabtext]bCute[/tabtext] [tabtext]Smoothie[/tabtext] [/tabcontainer] [tabcontent]
Gino, by Feelzgoys. $35.00. A smaller silicone, variable speeds, medium price traditional vibrator. This toy is too large for many at a 5 inch insertable length and only 4 inches in circumference. Gino is a good first time vibrator, and comes in a variety of colors. A very good introduction to traditional vibrators in the safest material at a very affordable price for these
High Intensity Crystal Bullet or regular High Intensity Bullet $18.99 and $14.99 These are not threatening. Small and have Variable speeds. A great deal in this price range. These bullets are common in the arsenals of those who have only a few toys or drawers, boxes, closets and rooms full of them. These bullets are small, intense, discreet and pretty. Every woman needs a good bullet, either for teasing, warming up or to bring oneself to orgasm. Whether she is just learning how her body responds sexually alone or with a partner, or needs something to warm up with or come to orgasm and is well experienced in using sex toys. The “Crystal Bullet” has pretty gems around the base.
Bcute Classic $24.99 Silicone, Small, low intensity vibrations, multi speeds. This is a high quality, lower priced, but by no means “cheap” vibrator in a smaller size than many, with safe materials and good vibrations.
Jimmy Jane Iconic Smoothie $19.99 Classic vibe shape, inexpensive, multiple settings, waterproof. Made of hard plastic. The Iconic Smoothie is a classically shaped straight vibrator, which can be used externally or during penetration.

Some vibrators attach to the finger, and are similar enough to manual masturbation that they may make some women comfortable with their first toy.

[tabcontainer] [tabtext]Wishbone[/tabtext] [tabtext]Chandra[/tabtext] [tabtext]Isis[/tabtext] [tabtext]Fukouku[/tabtext] [/tabcontainer] [tabcontent]
The Wishbone $25.99 finger massager has an interesting design. This small pocket sized vibrator has a U shaped handle and can be used directly on one’s finger, which may be more acceptable to women who have tried manual masturbation yet want the extra stimulation of a vibrator. It is truly a unique shape and toy.
The Chandra $29.99 by Emotional Bliss has a comfortable sheath, that fits over the finger and is attached to a fairly powerful small vibrator.
The Isis $29.99 also by Emotional Bliss a similar finger vibrator to the Chandra and is said to be for women “between the ages of 18 and 30” although I don’t know if there is a real science behind this. It is still a good finger massager.
The Fukouku is a little more expensive, but attaches to the wrist for easy use. It is a favorite finger massage vibrator for many women. It has numerous attachments and fits on the hand for easy use.

Pocket Rockets are slightly larger than Bullets and are held rather than attached to the finger. They are sometimes used for shallow insertion, but are usually used for clitoral stimulation and may be a good introduction for women new to penetration or simply for those who want a smaller, discreet vibrating toy.

[tabcontainer] [tabtext]Iconic[/tabtext] [tabtext]iVibe[/tabtext] [tabtext]Bottle Rocket[/tabtext] [tabtext]Mini Flex[/tabtext] [/tabcontainer] [tabcontent]
The Jimmy Jane Iconic Pocket Rocket is only one speed, but seems to have a lot of fans, No frills, plain white, hard plastic, but it is strong enough for many and quiet.
The iVibe $38.99 pocket rocket comes with it’s own lube. It can be used with the cap on or take the cap off for a textured experience. Many say it has the strongest power of the rockets. Plastic
The Bottle Rocket Line, by Evolved $11.99 are nice pocket rockets in innovative packaging. Here is one, the Saturn, but they come in several different shapes and textures. Plastic with a velvet feel . These can provide shallow penetration in addition to the nice Evolved vibration, or be used as a clitoral massager.
The Mini Flex by Cal Exotics .$8.99 is small and discreet. It has vibrating balls on the head and three attachments. Plastic. Not meant for insertion. The Mega Mite$10.99 is said to be stronger and has only one head

New to toys and sex, or difficulty with orgasm.

Some women may be new to sex, and are having difficulty with orgasm. These women may want a strong toy, but not a threatening one. They also often want a quiet toy and one which will virtually guarantee an orgasm. No toy can guarantee an orgasm, but some are better at others for helping a new Explorer to Find her Orgasm. Dr. Ruth helped design and promotes the Eroscillator, a toy developed for the Pre-Orgasmic women. Rather than vibrating, the attachments to this toy oscillate back and forth, as a human finger would on the clit, but at 7200 Oscillations Per Minute. There are several attachments, but the favorite seems to be one which must be bought separately (it isn’t included in the original set) and used with the Eroscillator base.

[tabcontainer] [tabtext]Eroscillator[/tabtext] [tabtext]Ultra soft attachment[/tabtext] [/tabcontainer] [tabcontent]
The Eroscillator’s handle and some of the attachments are hard plastic and the toy is expensive. But, many women, either new to sex or learning to orgasm find it worth the money. This toy is also very quiet and may help by not distracting the women with noise. $135.99
The Eroscillator also has a unique “Pillow” like attachment, shaped like a small marshmallow, that many people enjoy more than the original attachments, although at $35.99 it is pricey, and can is used only with the Eroscillator handle but many see it as worth the price.

New to toys, experienced sexually.

The woman who wants these toys is not a virgin or a beginner at sexual relations. She may have been sexually active for years, have had several relationships, or have been or is in a long term relationship. She has an ability to orgasm, but may be looking for something to help orgasm occur more quickly and/or easily. She and her partner may be looking for some interesting ways to add some something different and new to their sex lives and some toys may add to the mix.

Also, some women who are entering Peri-menopause may find their ability to orgasm becoming difficult, or the intensity of orgasms waning. These toys, although probably not what a woman new to sex would be interested in, are good for strong stimulation and a woman who enjoys penetration and strong sensations may find exactly what she needs.

Massager type, non insertable toys

[tabcontainer] [tabtext]Wahl[/tabtext] [tabtext]Hitachi[/tabtext] [tabtext]Fairies[/tabtext] [tabtext] Wand[/tabtext] [tabtext]Rechargeable[/tabtext] [tabtext]Mini[/tabtext] [/tabcontainer] [tabcontent]
The Wahl 2 Speed. . $36.99 Very thrumming, deep, rumbling vibrations. May be used alone or in tandem with an insertable toy, fingers or penis for penetration. The Wahl is not pretty, but its unique design provides very deep vibrations and seven different attachments, most of which can be used directly on the body or placed against a dildo, penetrative vibrator, or anal toys to “power” the other toys.
The Standard to which all Advanced toys are measured against, the infamous Hitachi. . $45.99 This toy has intense vibrations, emanating from a ball head, a long handle, two very heavy strong speeds and is powered by a wall plug. Attachments for penetration may be purchased separately. Or the toy can also be used to “Power” other toys.
Newer additions to the Classic Massager line are the Fairy toys. They come in several different sizes and their users appear loyal and satisfied. Several of them can be charged and used without being tethered to the plug. These are not as quiet as some other toys, but they seem to make for it in power. Their prices vary between $22.99 (for the Baby) to $60.00
Fairy wand is the top of the line, it is loved by many and is seen by some as less intimidating then the Hitachi or the Wahl massagers, with it’s smaller size and pink and white coloring.
Fairy rechargeable is an lovely wand vibrator, with a rechargeable function.
Fairy Miniature, is small but attachments can be purchased for penetration.

Toys for Introduction to Anal Play, Anal Sex and Prostate Stimulation

[tabcontainer] [tabtext]Finger Plug[/tabtext] [tabtext]Crystal Cote[/tabtext] [tabtext]Curve Kit[/tabtext] [tabtext]Plug of Lust[/tabtext][/tabcontainer] [tabcontent]
The Anal Finger plug, $8.99 also by Orion is a TPE toy of truly unintimidating size. It is smaller than most men’s fingers and has a large retrieval ring. Two inches of insertable length and only 2.25 inches in circumference at it’s widest. It is one of the smallest anal toys on the market. For those who may need to learn relaxation skills, or are nervous about anal play, but are still interested in learning this most enjoyable form of sex play.
Silicone crystal cote butt plug, by Cal Exotics $12.99 is a nice introduction to a fully silicone butt plug, with a wide round base at a reasonable price. It has a suction cup attached to the base, something not seen in many toys in this price range, and many find it comfortable as well as stimulating.
The Anal Curve Kit $28.99 by Cal Exotics is a set of anal probes, which bridge the gap between a simple plug, and a full set of beads. The kit has three bumpy TPR toys, in three different sizes, which can be stepped up to each larger size, as one likes to “train” while learning anal fun.
The Plug of Lust or Plug Der Lust $12.99 from Orion, is also a 100% silicone anal toy. It comes in small medium and large, depending on one’s experience level and desire. It is a different shape than the Crystal Cote, being Tear Drop shaped, with a ring behind the wide base. The ring can be used for removal or a bullet vibrator can be inserted into it for vibrating anal play.

Prostate Massager Toys

[tabcontainer] [tabtext]ProPal[/tabtext] [tabtext]Aneros[/tabtext] [tabtext]Bob[/tabtext] [/tabcontainer] [tabcontent]
The ProPal for Men $18.99, is an ABS plastic prostate toy. Although an inexpensive material, it is still safe. The ProPal has an easy to hang on to handle and two ends for different ways to stimulate the Prostate. This could well be many men’s introduction to Prostate toys for a very reasonable price.
The Aneros Line of Prostate toys are legendary. The Aneros MGX $54.99 has the interesting Aneros handle, and 4 ½ inches of insertable length, 3 inches of circumference at the widest point and a very stimulating, undulating shape for Prostate exploration. The Line has similar, yet slightly different prostate stimulators from to $67.99. All are safe, washable plastic. The beautifully artistic handles of the Aneros toys make for a safe base, to prevent “lost” toys. A very realistic concern and a necessity for beginners as well anyone and everyone who participates in anal play.
The Bob Pleasure Object by Lelo is an understated Prostate Stimulator and Plug. Many men find this 100% silicone toy reaches the prostate easily, is easy to insert and is very stimulating. It also has a ring for removal which is large enough for safety.

[tabcontainer] [tabtext]Egg[/tabtext] [tabtext]Tube[/tabtext] [tabtext]Fliphole[/tabtext] [/tabcontainer] [tabcontent]
Tenga egg masturbator $9.99. These delightful little nuggets are completely silicone, one time use masturbators. They come in 8 different textures and are a wonderful alternative to either a man’s or a woman’s hand during manual sex play. Most men’s penises will fit into the egg shaped Tenga Egg and it can be thrown away after use, or cleaned and used a few more times before it wears out it’s usefulness. These are great for introduction to male masturbators (and also make great covers for the Hitachi Wand head.)
Tenga makes a variety of reusable masturbators at affordable prices. Everything from the Deep Throat to the Soft Tube Cup to several others. These offer safer materials, in a reusable masturbator.
These may be the end of a man’s journey into tube masturbator toys, preferring them completely or an introduction to more expensive and more advanced toys like the Tenga Flip Hole or one of the more expensive tube masturbators.

Users say this harness is easy to adjust and will accommodate a variety of dildos with the proper base for harness play.
