Adam Glasser aka Seymore Butts is to the back door of adult cinema as Russ Meyers was to the Amazonian like B-rated breast models. His original style of gonzo genre pictures shooting the fantasies in first person perspective has captivated deviant audiences since 1992 and now over 120 ‘ass’tronomical titles, Glasser’s showing no signs of letting up his unrelenting anal onslaught. Any of his efforts can be truly regarded upon as innovative from Seymore & The Honeymooners to Deep Inside Shane, Squirters, Tushy Heaven, Gapes of Wraith, Poetic JustAss, Tongue in Cheeks and Anusthesia to just name a few.

Seymore has harnessed his multi-talents into other media demonstrating the purveyor of posterior, the baron of buttocks and the guru of gluteus maximus is here to make an impact. Without further a do edencafe.com and Dave Gammon proudly presents Asspire to be Asstounding with Seymore Butts:

DAVE GAMMON: Family Business, the runaway hit reality television show is based upon the personal life of one adult film producer and director. Incidentally that person is you Adam. We’re invited into your home each week to watch interaction between your mother, your son, Cousin Stevie and a whole host of stars and starlets. Do you believe this series has enlightened the average viewer and eased some of the stereotypes and misconceptions about the porn industry? Or do you believe that perhaps the world simply wasn’t quite ready for Family Business as of yet?

SEYMORE BUTTS: No. I don’t think it’s a matter of not being ready for us. I mean we did go into four seasons. I believe it depends upon the cable channel we’re being shown on. Here we’re on Showtime, the number two most popular station behind HBO, being the first. We had viewership of a potential twenty million where as in England for example we’re shown on MTV. Naturally they reach out to a larger audience. So its popularity, in reality is proof in fact that it wasn’t a matter of the world not being ready for us.

Has it helped enlighten the typical viewer’s perception of what an adult producer’s personal life is like? Well on prior occasion everyone seemed to believe three main things about people in the porn business 1) They’re all scumbags. 2) Drug addicts. 3) Perverts….

…….I just happen to be all three (laughs). But seriously I think our show opened the eyes to people who were a little naïve about the industry and realize we’re regular people, the same as everyone else. And on the other hand it all depends upon how you want to be perceived before your audience. There will always be that level of intrigue there.

DG: I must admit, I’ve watched the show. I’ve observed the rapport you have with Cousin Stevie. The warmth and loving relationship you have with your mother; how well adjusted your son is; there is evidence of inter-relationship cohesion and no dysfunction whatsoever. I really enjoyed the show and hope there will somehow be another season.

SB: Thanks. I appreciate that.

DG: I have seen a lot of activity in lobbying for another season, obviously through a new network. Do you think there is a possibility? If the opportunity presents itself would you do another season?

SB: Well it is possible there will be another season through another network. Is the probability great? Not really. Would I do another season? Sure, yeah I would.

DG: Overall do you believe there is an advanced movement or evolution towards society’s acceptance of xxx entertainment?

SB: I think it all started with Linda Lovelace and Deep throat and it’s been evolving ever since. It terms of societal acceptance—really a more accurate perception would be the society. Where I mentioned full blown adult content is shown on channel four in England, in Canada you Canadians don’t believe in the authenticity of female ejaculation or squirting. When I say Canadians I don’t mean you necessarily but Canadians think that it’s actually urination when it is not.

In Brazil you can flip through the television stations and find beastiality, a woman with her hand wrapped around a horse’s erect cock. So yes we are evolving towards a more universal acceptance towards porn. Really it depends upon the society.

There was a documentary on HBO Real Sex about beastiality that depicted some of the same types of images. Yet because it was presented in a documentary style it was suddenly acceptable. Whereas if I tried such a stunt, I’d be arrested on obscenity charges; not that I would be so inclined or even remotely interested but labels and acceptance aren’t always as important to evolution as you’d think.

DG: Well I hope this is a good seguay to my next question. You’ve dabbled in writing; your recent endeavor titled Rock Her World. Describe the brain child behind this pursuit and the over all concept.

SB: I get tons of letters asking for advice. I get asked about sex, relationships, whatever. Tons and floods of emails and letters just got to be overwhelming. It got tiring trying to respond to all of the questions. So I decided to summarize a lot of the content in commonly asked questions.

DG: As we are progressing steadily into the 21st century the fan base has shifted dramatically. No longer is Buttsville merely a town residing in male admirers. In fact the popularity has risen dramatically for female fans. Ever had an unsavory female fan encounter or a certifiable Seymore stalker?

SB: If you review the credit card receipts within our office, you’ll see at least fifty percent possibly more of the names are those of women. So its encouraging to see. Have I ever had a Seymore stalker? ……No…..not really. I would say that I’m often approached with comments and questions at inappropriate times.

There is this upscale, picturesque walk way—The Promenade just out side of L.A. Just the other day I was walking with my son—

DG: Oh no….

SB: Sometimes people will approach me and start talking to me like we’re on a film set. This elderly, senior citizen couple comes up to me. He says, “hey aren’t you….” And I said yes, its me. They get into this long, heart felt speech about how much I’d impressed their sex lives as they’d never tried anal sex before watching my movies and….

DG: Oh God….

SB: I look over at his wife and she’s raising her eyebrows repeatedly and giving me the thumbs up sign.

DG: Wow! You’d think they’d have a little more tact, a little more self-restraint. There’s a time and a place.

SB: I guess their own way of justifying their actions was it was their one and only chance or opportunity.

DG: I suppose; but at the cost of being in your son’s presence too.

SB: Exactly there is a time and a place. Great that I’d enhanced or enriched their interaction somehow. Their use or misuse of discretion..not so great.

DG: Do you find you’re getting recognized and approached more and more?

SB: Yeah I don’t go out to restaurants as much as I once did. I dress down quite a bit. Occasionally I’ll get approached in a bar with people wanting to buy me drinks. I respectfully decline, then later then see me across the room with a drink. To play the nice guy I humour them and accept. Of course then after a few drinks the questions tend to get a lot ‘looser’.

One instance stands out in my mind; reoccurring and I can’t avoid it as it’s the guy working the check out line in my grocery store where I shop for groceries. Its so annoying. He’s always saying ‘dude’ you gotta hook me up with one of your hotties to give me a blow job!’

DG: Damn, and you just want to buy some groceries.

SB: Well yeah. And I get old friends asking me all the time to hook them up with ‘hotties’.

DG: How about conventions? Ever attend them anymore?

SB: I haven’t in about four years. I haven’t been to AVN since then. Thing is about the shows, it turns out to be a big social scene. The drinking, the partying; aside from being in Vegas, aside from the gambling there’s parties and there’s after parties. Its not unusual to be up until five a.m. partying and then sitting in a trade show booth all the next day. Which is fine, its just not for me, its not what I’m about anymore.

DG: The intent is to do business there. Yet I can see its not really the case. I mean, I attended C.E.S. once in 1998 I believe it was…

SB: I was there.

DG: Oh yeah. I recall the Tushy Girls booth had drawn such pandemonium and a sea of curious on-lookers that there was no way any mortal man was getting a hundred feet closer. But I can relate in that even as a retailer, as I was at the time I was like a kid in a candy store. Wall to wall flesh, it was unreal.

SB: Yeah it is distracting. There’s basically no actual business that takes place. I’m much more business oriented now and more focused.

DG: Being one of the premier directors in adult film revolutionizing the gonzo genre, are there any directors who have been influential to you? Are there any current directors out there that you’ve enjoyed as a fan?

SB: John Stagliano in the early part of my career was a big influence. To be honest, I really don’t get a lot of time; I have no time to watch porn. Aside from monitoring all the tube sites that are illegally lifting and using my content against my consent or knowledge; I just don’t have the time. In terms of good directors now I’d say Jules Jordan does good quality stuff. Getting back to what you’d mentioned earlier about our business really taking off in popularity for women, now we see directional efforts from women like Bella Donna, Jenna Haze.

DG: Sure, sure. Dyanna Lauren.

SB: Yes Dyanna Lauren, its sort of refreshing in that regard.

DG: What stars or starlets in particular have you personally enjoyed working with? Are there any you’d rather just as soon prefer to forget?

SB: I really don’t personally perform as much as other directors. I perform very infrequently; if the situation calls for it-sure. Really, I prefer to perform out of comfort. I don’t really have any seriously bad experiences. I had to fire one girl on a site once in over twenty years. I’ve had problems with guys, some of the male talent. Nothing really remarkable though. As far as pleasurable experiences go, a lot of contract stars hot their start with us everyone from Shane, Taylor Hayes, Alisha Klass, Mari Possa were all very positive.

DG: Those who know the Adam Glasser persona are aware of your tastes for mainstream cinema particularly horror. Ever consider eclipsing the two? A dark porn as it were or a brand new franchise of ‘whorror’ ?

SB: Well I do in fact have a script. It’s a horror movie, really not a porno though. There’s no explicit sex or anything like that. I’d like for my son to be a part of it. I may start shooting it as early as this summer.

DG: As the adult film industry seems to mirror itself after Hollywood technological trends, what do you think the next big thing will be?

SB: If you’re talking about technology, its pretty much already here in 3D. Our industry is an explosion driven by technology. If it wasn’t reel to reel first then it was VHS then DVD, Blue Ray. Pretty much our household dictates what will be in demand. They’re already making 3D adult movies…

DG: Its interesting 3D mainstream Hollywood had its first run in the ‘80’s then just kind of fizzled out. Adult film followed suit in the 90’s but it never really took off. Interesting how things can re-emerge-

SB: Well I mean we have technology to support it now with 3D television in the household. Its like I often say if we could figure out how to put porn on a toaster we would.

DG: So what’s on the horizon in 2011 for Seymore Butts?

SB: I’m thinking of writing a new book; The counter part to Rock Her World but catering to women. Many women have posed countless questions and seek advice, so that’s definitely in the works.

I’m in the planning process of an all new concept for a web site; I really can’t reveal much about it now but it should be launched in the new year.

We plan on taking production to Mexico. It’s funny how we’ve talked about trends in the xxx business. When I first entered the business there were big budget films, we called them features and they were without doubt the most popular. I worked in more of an amateur genre or accurately what we call gonzo.

DG: Shot in first person perspective-

SB: Exactly, the market grew and grew to the point of saturation. Suddenly everyone is making gonzo. Now the big budget films are popular.

We’ve got the talent, the locations: Acupulco, Cancun, Mexico City. The shooting costs will be significantly less. There are countless aspiring Latina starlets look for it in 2011.

DG: I thank you once again Seymore for a highly entertaining and intriguing interview. It’s been a thrill and an honour. All the best.
